Where efficiency pays on the Central Coast
Efficiency is worth the most where run hours are highest. Inland North County — Paso Robles, Templeton, Atascadero, Shandon — has long, hot summers with weeks of triple-digit afternoons, so cooling efficiency compounds. On the coast in Morro Bay or Cayucos, cooling hours are low and ultra-high SEER2 is harder to justify financially.
The part the rating can't capture
- Sizing: an oversized system short cycles and never reaches its rated efficiency; a load calculation is non-negotiable.
- Ducts: leaky or undersized ductwork can erase a big slice of a system's rated performance before it reaches your rooms.
- Refrigerant charge and airflow at commissioning: the rating assumes both are set exactly to spec.
This is why we treat commissioning measurements — airflow, charge, temperature split — as part of every installation, and document them. A rating on a brochure is a ceiling; installation decides how close you get to it.
